ACORN CHARITY INVITATION SHIELD
[Supporting Acorn Village in Mistley]
SEASON 2017 – 18
Brantham Athletic FC “A” versus Belle Vue Social FC
Report for Saturday 07.04.2018
One of the postponed Good Friday quarter final games in the Acorn Charity Invitation Shield took place today between Brantham Athletic ‘A’ and Belle Vue Social with the game being played at Raydon, and it was the third placed side in Division Two of the Essex and Suffolk Border League that ran out the comfortable winners with a 7-1 victory over their hosts who currently sit in sixth position.
It was Brantham who took the lead on nineteen minutes when the belle Vue keeper fumbled a Joel Andrews free kick allowing Lewis Mitchell to tap home. This shocked Belle Vue who were back level at 1-1 just a minute later when Jamie Ennew headed home a David Weir cross. They went in front on thirty-two minutes in a back to front move involving three players following a Brantham corner before Ennew slotted home his second of the game. With forty-one minutes on the clock a Daniel Gasson-Davies thumping header from a David Weir corner, made it 3-1 and 3-1 became 4-1 and game over on the stroke of half time when Ennew latched onto a clever short cross field pass to lift his shot over the advancing Brantham keeper and into the net.
Brantham nearly got back into the game twelve minutes into the second period in a prolonged goal mouth scramble with several attempts on goal either blocked or saved before Belle Vue finally cleared the ball up-field.
The scoring was completed in a nine minute period mid-way through the half when on sixty-five minutes Sam Nunn dived low to head home a loose ball, and on seventy-two minutes a rare Wesley Henry goal increased the Belle Vue lead to 6-1, before two minutes later they made it 7-1 through Ben Quinney, and giving just enough time for Jack Thorndyke to come off the bench for a cameo appearance.
